Dog Vaccination
Why vaccinate?:
We vaccinate to prevent killer diseases.
What diseases?:
Core Vaccinable Diseases:
_ Canine Distemper A fatal disease of the immune system and the
_ Infectious Canine Hepatitis is a fatal disease affecting the liver.
_ Parvovirus - an often fatal virus causing severe haemorrhagic diarrhoea.
_ Leptospirosis - a fatal bacterial disease spread by rats' urine. Humans can get Leptospirosis.
Other vaccinations available:
_ Kennel cough - a debilitating disease spread where dogs congregate.
_ Rabies - for dogs going abroad.
What is the protocol?:
Puppies:
Please ask us about important socialisation and puppy parties.
2 vaccinations at least 2 weeks apart - second one no younger than 10 weeks.
1st annual booster at 15 months - full vaccination of all the diseases.
Doberman's and Rottweilers should get a 3rd parvo vaccination at 18 weeks
Adult dogs:
Annually - Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough (the bacterial diseases)
Every 3rd year - Distemper, Parvo, and Infectious Hepatitis viruses as well as the bacterial
diseases
